Improvisation is a way to express yourself in new and funny ways.  For nearly ten years, ESIC had an improv program for middle and high school kids, and we are looking to restart it now with an improv class specifically for kids in grades 6 through 9.  This new class will teach the techniques of improvisation comedy with an eye towards live performance based upon in-the-moment audience suggestions.

Improv allows for more than just a string of jokes; it can also provide a way to explore and better understand the world we live in.  Improv training provides many benefits, including teaching how to work cooperatively, challenging people to expand their own creativity, and honing comic skills. Our group’s performances promise to be hilarious and honest takes about life in middle/high school.

The group is led by two trained improvisers: Eli Civetta is a recent graduate of Northwestern University with a degree in Radio/TV/Film.  He has been performing improv since middle school, and he completed the Second City Conservatory Training program.  He has performed around the country, and he is currently the director of the new Evanston improv group: Pierre, Reviewed.  Peter Civetta is founder and artistic director of ESIC.  He worked as a professional actor for nearly ten years and performed improvisation around the country.  He has a Ph.D. in Theater Studies from Cornell University, and he is a member of the Northwestern Theater Department.

• WHEN? Fridays from 5-6:30 pm from October 2nd through November 20th (8 sessions)

• WHERE? St. Matthew's Episcopal Church 2120 Lincoln Street, Evanston

• COST? $300 (scholarships are available)
